First Year Admission

At the center of our enrollment process is a conversation because we want to get to know each child as a person, not just as a number in the system.

This fall we expect to enroll approximately 40 new students in two first grade classes of the Croatian-European Gymnasium PKG, from various elementary schools and educational backgrounds. We approach each candidate carefully and individually, as we believe that a good start makes all the difference.

Questions and Answers

① What does the enrollment process at PKG look like and how do we apply?

The enrollment process is designed as a pleasant and personal experience. It is sufficient to contact us through the form on the website or by phone. After that, we arrange an appointment for an individual school visit. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, exchange expectations, and create a first impression of how your child could grow and progress in our environment.

② Who will we speak with and what does the meeting at school look like?

The conversation is led by the enrollment coordinator together with a member of the professional team. Parents always attend the conversation and actively participate in it, as it is important for us to hear parental thoughts and questions. However, the central and most important part of the meeting is the conversation with the student. Through this personal meeting, we want to get to know their personality, interests, way of thinking, and level of motivation. This gives us the most information about how the child can fit in and progress in our school environment.

③ Does the child need to prepare for the conversation?

No special preparation is needed. It is important that the child comes relaxed and is themselves. The conversation is not a test or assessment, but an opportunity for us to get to know each other and talk about things that are important to the child. Children often say that it was interesting, encouraging, and different from what they expected.

④ What if my child has special interests, habits, or needs?

That is exactly what we want to learn during the conversation. PKG adapts its approach to each student. It is important for us to understand how the child learns, what motivates them, and how we can provide them with the best support. Through personal conversation, we create the foundation for quality cooperation, trust, and a sense of security.

⑤ When will we receive feedback and what follows after that?

Parents will receive feedback through the e-Enrollment system, and in exceptional situations PKG may offer a pre-contract very shortly after the conversation. If we jointly conclude that PKG is the right place for your child, a simple and clearly guided enrollment process follows. You will receive all information and support on time, and our coordinator will guide you through the entire process so that enrollment is calm, clear, and stress-free.

⑥ Why is classical testing not conducted, but enrollment is based on conversation?

At PKG we deeply believe that a child is not a grade or test result. Our enrollment process is based on conversation because we want to get to know the student as a complete person. Through an open and warm meeting with the professional team, which has years of experience working with young people, we assess how the child thinks, what motivates them, and how they learn. This approach does not create stress, but creates trust. Children feel safe, accepted, and have the opportunity to show their true potential.

Conversation allows us to see what tests cannot. Experience constantly confirms that school grades or test results often do not reflect a child’s true abilities, especially if they come from an environment where there was not enough support or understanding. Our goal is not to select the best by points, but to recognize those who will develop in our environment, learn with joy and a sense of belonging.

This method of selection is not only more humane, but also more precise. Students who come to PKG after such a conversation know that they have been seen and valued exactly as they are. This is the beginning of a different and better high school experience.
